Abstract

Despite severe asthma is much less common than other phenotypes of asthma, the disease burden is much higher than that imposed by other forms. Allergy may play a significant role in majority cases of severe asthma. Allergen-specific immunotherapy is the only etiology-based treatment capable of allergic disease modification. This review focuses on current evidence for allergen-specific immunotherapy in allergic asthma, especially in cases with severe asthma forms.
