Abstract

On the 1st of July, 2014 European Commision has passed a Directive amending Directive 2006/126/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on driving licences. Numerous studies have become available that confirm that the obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome is one of the highest risk factors for motor vehicle accidents. Therefore this condition should no longer be ignored in the context of the Union driving licence legislation. Member States had to adopt and publish by 31 December 2015 at the latest the laws and regulations necessary to comply with this Directive, hence standards for testing drivers with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome in Lithuania are reviewed in this article.
