Abstract

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic condition of unknown ethology with an unfavourable outcome from progressively deteriorating respiratory function leading ultimately to death from respiratory failure. Pirfenidone is an oral antifibrotic agent that has been shown to reduce the decline in lung function in patients with IPF. The comprehensive studies have proved that long-term treatment with pirfenidone is safe and generally well tolerated for patients with IPF.
