Abstract

Asthma is common chronic inflammatory airway disease, which morbidity increases every year in the world. The main symptoms are wheezing, dyspnoea, cough and chest tightness. Airway hyper responsiveness to direct or indirect irritant is observed during asthma. The cause and mechanisms of this disease are not fully investigated yet. Researchers discus about role of vitamin D in various chronic diseases, including asthma. Scientific studies show that lower vitamin D level is detected in various age patients with asthma compared to healthy individuals. Vitamin D may have anti-inflammatory properties. Moreover, it may regulate immune system response. Sufficient vitamin D level can increase patients’ with asthma lung function results, response to inhaled steroids and reduce consumption of medications and exacerbations of this disease.
