Abstract

The relationship between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and arterial hypertension (AH) is very complex and share the same risk factors. The prevalence of OSA in patients with AH is 5-15 percent, but it rises up to 30 percent among patients with drug resistant AH. Pathogenesis of AH in OSA is explained by the pathways of intermittent hypoxia and sleep fragmentation. Current approach towards diagnostic and treatment of co-existence of OSA and AH is presented in this article.
