GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS AND SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY

Abstract

Gene engineering and genetically modified organisms (GMO) was introduced to society quite long time ago but it still remains a controversial topic. The best example of the controversies that it causes is the two extremely different political and legal regulation of the two main parties - European Union and United states of America. USA has created a positive legislation system of biotechnology and GMO while the EU has much more conservative position towards biotechnology and GMO, emphasizing the possible threats within these areas.
