Abstract

Angioedema is defined as local swelling of subcutaneous and submucosal tissue. This disease is considered to be rare. There are two main types of angioedema – acquired and hereditary. These two groups are divided into smaller according to pathogenesis. Episodes of angioedema with swelling of face, tongue and respiratory and digestive tracts are common for all types of angioedema. This disease is life threatening because of risk of obstruction of respiratory tract. Treatment and prophylaxis are chosen according to pathogenesis of angioedema. The aim of this article is to review etiology, clinical features and diagnostic and treatment options of di$erent types of angioedema.
