Abstract

Antibiotic macrolides are used for treatment of infections caused by gram-positive bacteria as well as mycoplasma, chlamydia and even Legionella pneumophila. Noemacrolides such as azithromycin, clarithromycin are less toxic and effective in treatment of respiratoy infections. Among “atypicals“ antibiotic resistance is rare and very seldom responsible for clinical failures. Though immunomodulatory effects of mactrolides are known for many years, there is still a lack of evidence to implement them in everyday clinical practice for treatment of chronic respiratory diseases..
